The Beginning

Always in life, there are 2 choices, to stay or to go. Today, I chose to go.

After work today, I was thoroughly tempted to just go back to the apartment, head down to our ever-convenient downstairs supermarket, settle in with a bottle of red wine, and watch old episodes of Friends. But instead, as I stood outside the HK Arts Festival with (more than) half of me exhausted from sitting all day (oh the AGONY of sitting and staring at computers all day), I forced myself to turn and walk the opposite direction, away from the MTR station. I pulled out my HK Guidebook (Yes I do carry it in my purse, yes I do pull it out regularly, no i do NOT care about looking like a touristy fool), closed my eyes and jabbed my finger onto the map. Ok, so It landed on some obscure body of water, sooo I decided to instead just walk towards the general direction of the city center and soon found myself strolling past at least five different landmarks, traversing gardens that had appeared as mere green blobbies (Yes, blobby is a word) on my map, and ended up at the Star Ferry heading towards Tsim Tsa Tsui. I wasn't sure how it worked, but saw some young couple drop a 2 dollar coin for a token, and so, imitated what seemed appropriate. And Voila! I found myself on a boat (on a boat! on a boat! finally on a boat!) towards the other side of the Island.

I ended up finding a great little Italian restaurant/bar called Spasso with a patio that overlooked the entire city skyline. I got to see the so-called "Symphony of lights"- the 8pm daily light show that stems from the lit-up buildings of major HK skyscrapers/buildings- which was mediocre at best, but nevertheless enjoyable, especially with the company of a Bloody Lychee drink, a specially made mojitos, and perfect-sized dish of fresh cashews.
